nyc improviser, actor, director and perhaps oddly, computer programmer. |
Welcome! I’ve gotten to perform in some very fun web videos and other films including stuff for DerrickComedy, CollegeHumor, ucbcomedy.com, Channel 101 and others. Here are some favorites.
Stripmall Photograph: Tahiti - I directed and starred in this series, which was part of the ucbcomedy.com relaunch. Crystal Delahanty, the writer, designed the series to allow for heavy improvising which made the shoot very fun. We’d run it, then talk it over with Crystal and run it again accumulating our favorite parts. Matt Fisher is hilarious and I enjoy being bewildered by him.
The Fun Squad - This was the first number one show at Channel 101 in New York. I directed, co-starred and co-wrote this with Matt DeCoster and Rob Lathan. Fun Squad is a purposefully low budget kids show hosted by three beaten-looking dudes, inspired by the old Sid and Marty Kroff kids shows like H.R. Pufinstuf and Lidsville. I borrowed a friend’s ukelele for the theme song which we wrote in five minutes.
The Bartender - A popular web series from Mitch Magee, who always gives the videos he directs at great visual style. The dance that my character does was not in the script, I was warming up for my lines and didn’t really know I was being filmed.
DerrickComedy’s Mystery Team - I got to be the principal in DerrickComedy’s feature film Mystery Team. Even better, I get to be in the first scene of this trailer. It is a testament to my awesome emotional repression that I was able to not laugh at Donald Glover in this scene who is being hilarious.
Very Mary Kate: Extension - I met Elaine Carroll when directeing a sketch show she was in at UCBT, and couldn’t believe how great she was. Then a few months later she asked me to be a fed up professor in her hilarious web series. I set up a fake twitter account for this character, and he almost has more followers than me. Am I famous? Thank you Elaine!
Evil Genius Bar - The Landline.tv guys showed everyone in NYC that you can make videos that are funny and topical in a seemingly effortless way. “Would you like to be in a sketch called ‘Evil Genius Bar?’ You would be the evil genius” said Paul. “Yes,” I said. I’ve been in several Landline shorts but none with such pronounced eyebrow makeup.
44-letter crossword - Todd Bieber of ucbcomedy.com wanted more “blackout” sketches — quick one-joke videos. My brother Kevin and I got to be in this one, written by Brandon Guyla and directed by Anthony King. Fun!
American Apparel: Everyday Sexy - Todd Bieber of ucbcomedy.com wrote and directed this to make fun of American Apparel and to use Nate Dern’s great impersonation of that character. I play a middle aged man asked to be one of their overtly sexual ads. This video got posted on gawker.com, Huffington Post and many other places.
Valentine’s Day Breakup - Ben Schwartz, who assured me constantly that I was too young looking to REALLY be his Dad, cast me as his father in this hilarious Valentine’s Day breakup video. The wave that I do about one minute in is my favorite moment of my whole life.
Sexual Intercourse American Style - Another Mitch Magee project! I play Clark, one of four Connecticut yuppies in a very proper sex club. If you watch the whole series my character goes from “uptight yuppie” to “oblivious buffoon” which was a fun arc to travel. Originally done for Channel 101, atom.com bought this series as well as some guy in Sweden (true).
Other stuff:
Two Guys Who Reasonably Disarm Farcical Situations - 45 seconds, how can you go wrong audience?
Nuts Punched - Mitch punches Will in the crotch.
That Guy - Rob cannot think of how to describe someone to Will.
Madeline Would Rather Die In The Flames - A radio host refuses to leave, even though the building is burning to the ground.
The Block - What if The Warriors took place on just one block? And it was filmed for ten dollars?
